Is Soweto an area that intrigues you? Would you like to experience as much of Soweto as you can during your time in Johannesburg? Then book this tour! In two days we show you all around Soweto. You’ll learn a lot about the culture and history on day one, when we take you on our Soweto Tour and on day two you will have great fun on a bicycle tour through Kliptown, a suburb of Soweto.

On our way to Soweto we pass by the National Football Stadium City, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area, where we will take a walk past vendors selling just about anything.

In Orlando West we visit Vilakazi Street- drive past the former home of Nelson Mandela and past the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will have an opportunity to relive a part of the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976. On that tragic day an innocent little boy called Hector Pieterson gave up his life and kick-started the liberation of South Africa.

We continue our trip with a tour of the Regina Mundi Church. The church was a meeting point during the early times of the anti-apartheid movement. We continue our tour driving into one of the shanty towns where you get to interact with some of the locals.

By now you have seen the good, the bad and the ugly facets of Soweto. We drive past the Soweto Campus of the Johannesburg University and end our tour with a stop at the largest hospital in the world: Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The following morning you’ll explore Kliptown by bike! On the bicycle tour you will cycle through the area of Kliptown accompanied by a guide who lives in the area. Learn more about Kliptown’s history, meet people from the area and learn about life in Kliptown today. You will also have the opportunity to meet leaders and youth members of SKY (Soweto Kliptown Youth) and be introduced to their work and activities. During this tour you will experience daily Soweto life real close-up and personal. Your experienced guides will make sure you have a great time during this tour!
