Aquila Private Game Reserve
The private game reserve is named after the endangered Black or Verreaux eagle found in the area. The owner of Aquila Private Game Reserve found the perfect piece of land in the southern Karoo which was suitable for the Big 5 and established it as a safari destination with 4-star accommodation to share South Africa’s wonderful wildlife with visitors to the Cape.
The private reserve is only a 2-hour drive from Cape Town on Route 62 which passes through the beautiful Hex River Valley and the quaint town of Touws River. Visitors can explore the reserve on an open safari vehicle or on the back of a quad bike or horse. The best time to visit is between August and September with the wild flowers of the Karoo are in full bloom.
The 4-star accommodation at Aquila Safari Lodge has luxury and comfort in mid, and the newly-opened Aquila spa adds a touch of indulgence to the safari tour. Aquila Safari has proven to be a valuable asset in the region; protecting and preserving threatened wildlife and creating much-needed jobs, developing skills and uplifting the lives of local inhabitants.
