The half-day tour starts in Sea Point and winds its way through Clifton and Camps Bay, over a beautiful mountain pass into the fishing village of Hout Bay and onto Cape Point which is the south-western tip of Africa.

Return to Cape Town City Bowel via the False Bay Coastal Road through the historic naval town of Simon’s Town, the world-renowned Constantia Valley and the lush suburbs of Newlands and Bishop’s Court. It’s the ideal way to take in the steep rugged mountains, white sandy beaches and breath-taking views of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

Cape Town City Bowl

Cape Town CBD is a vibrant, multi-cultural destination which is steeped in history and culture. It’s the gateway to Cape Town’s most popular attraction such as the V&A Waterfront, the Two Oceans Aquarium and a working harbour where you can take a boat trip to visit Robben Island.

Once a safe haven for passing ships, sailors and traders; Cape Town City Bowl is world-renowned for its vast collection of quality hotels, designer shops and stylish restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Modern high-rise corporate offices stand sentry over the historical Company’s Gardens and the Castle of Good Hope.

Atlantic Seaboard

The Atlantic Seaboard is a scenic drive that runs parallel to the glistening Atlantic Ocean; taking you from the historic suburb of Sea Point to Clifton and Camps Bay, and over a mountain pass that overlooks picturesque Llandudno beach to the quaint fishing village of Hout Bay. The Atlantic Seaboard boasts some of the most expensive real estate in the country.

Hout Bay

Hout Bay is an active fishing village and home to a thriving fishing community. The village is set in a fold of mountains with a beautiful bay with a view looking out across the Atlantic Ocean. The long sandy beach is perfect for families and for walking dogs. The main street is flanked by an eclectic mix of shops and there’s a superb craft market on the green every Sunday. The fishing harbour is a working harbour for the tuna and crayfishing industries and for operators running boat trips, diving and fishing excursions.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

Chapman’s Peak Drive was built between 1915 and 1922 and was a marvel of road engineering at the time. It takes visitors from Hout Bay to Noordhoek and Kommetjie which is the gateway to the south-western tip of Africa. It twists and turns, offering spectacular 180° views of the magnificent Atlantic Ocean.

Cape Point Nature Reserve

Cape Point Nature Reserve is found at the tip of the Cape Peninsula and spans almost 18 000 hectares. It falls within the Table Mountain National Park which is regarded world-wide as being one of the most ecologically rich and diverse biospheres in the world. It is home to the Cape mountain zebra and over 250 species of birds. It’s also one of the largest breeding grounds for tortoises in the world.

False Bay Coastal Road

The False Bay Coastal Road takes you from the Cape Peninsula to the historic naval town of Sea Point, and onto the quaint seaside resort towns of Fish Hoek, St James and Muizenberg. The road hugs the eastern coastline of the Southern Peninsula with panoramic views across the Indian Ocean to the Helderberg Mountains in the far distance.

Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach is home to one of the largest colonies of African Jackass penguins found in the world. These quirky creatures rest on massive granite boulders or in deep crevices and mingle happily with families swimming in the sea and playing on the beach. A long boardwalk takes you from the beach to a lookout point where you can observe the penguins in their natural habitat.

If time permits, guests can visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach (entrance for your own account).

Simon’s Town

Simon’s Town is an active naval base and harbour which has served the country for over two centuries. It’s also was home to Just Nuisance, the only dog to ever be officially enlisted in the Royal Navy. The historical main street has a fantastic collection of quaint shops and the harbour precinct is well-known for its restaurants and boutique stores.

Iconic landmarks on route home

The half-day tour ends with a journey home along the Blue Route which takes you past the world-famous Constantia Estate to the lush suburbs of Newlands and Bishop’s Court. Along the way, you’ll pass the University of Cape Town, Rhodes’ Memorial and Groote Schuur, where Dr Christian Barnard performed the world’s first heart transplant.

Driving over the pass and onto the Cape Town City Bowel, the routes provides guests with a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Town’s historic harbour and, in the far distance, Robben Island; where the late Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 27 years for acts of treason during the apartheid era
