On that tragic day an innocent little boy called Hector Pieterson gave up his life and kick-started the liberation of South Africa.
During this tour we will pass by the Mandela House. A visit into the museum is optional.
We continue our tour driving into one of the shanty towns where you get to interact with some of the locals.

After Lunch we visit the world famous apartheid museum. Here you will learn about the history and struggle of South Africa during apartheid.

It was a great tour through Johannesburg with many interesting stops and good insights in the history of south africa. Especially the Soweto tour was very interesting, because I would never go there unguided and I really felt very safe.
This was an absolute perfect way to spend the day in Johannesburg. We were able to see the Mandela house, the Apartheid Museum, Soweto, and some other really good local places. All of which give you a true feeling of what Johannesburg is. The tour guides were very friendly and very informative. They made the day go by very comfortably and securely. Mo Afrika tours are awesome and this is a great example
The tour was well organised and we visited a number of interesting places. Most significant was the Constitutional Hill with a rather sobering insight in the history of SA when visiting the old prison. Downtown Johannesburg was very interesting too, seeing the changes... so much cleaner and safer. The views over Jburg from Carlton Centre were amazing. Apartheid museum, Hektor Pieterson memorial, the towers in Soweto and Vilakazi street were fascinating too. Can only recommend MoAfrica Tours.
Bobo and his associate did an excellent job showing the inside out of many hot spots. Bobo knows everyone in town. He found us great spot for photo taking. He knows the city very well to avoid traffic. He and his associate explains the history of different parts of cities while driving from one spot to the other. They took us to a local spot for lunch and it was delicious, just say it was ten times better than the dinner at the hotel. Many tour might offer the similar places to go, Bobo and his associate made the trip memorable. Both of them really enjoy what they do and they have great sense of humor, which made the day trip so much more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
MoAfrika were very helpful beforehand with reminder texts for the pickup and responding to queries on WhatsApp. The tour guide Nick was from Soweto, really friendly and knowledgeable. There was a group of 7 on the day I went, all very nice people and it felt well organised and safe You cover a good amount in a day, from the roof of Africa (Carlton Centre) to the Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill and Soweto including Orlando Towers, Hector Peterson Memorial and a visit to one of the poorer areas of Soweto so you get to see what it's like and make a donation. It's great that a portion of the tour fee goes to the families in the township. There is also an optional visit to Nelson Mandela's house The guide was very knowledgeable and it was great to see so much in one day on the Ultimate Johannesburg Tour; in a safe way with other friendly people from couples to families and solo travellers. There was just about enough time for everything, although there is so much to see in the Apartheid museum so there's not too much time to hang around if you want to get round and see a good amount in 2.5 hrs! Very professional tour company who care about providing a great service, would definitely recommend! Thank you
Just returned from a fantastic day tour with Nicholas from MoAfrica. The tour was fantastic and a great overview if you have limited time in the city. It also felt really safe as Nicholas has good relationships with everyone, everywhere we went. I could easily have spent days in the museums do wouldn't hesitate going back to these by Uber. I would highly recommend this tour and Nicholas also.
This tour is a long day packed with sites and experiences. We were picked up at our hotel on time, in a van that could have been a bit cleaner. But move past that, put on some good walking shoes and enjoy what this long day has to offer. You will be taken to every site stated in the description, and for those leery about venturing about Johannesburg this is best way to be introduced to what this city has to offer. You will get enough time at Constitution Hill and the museums to get your feet wet but you will likely want to revisit to them, as they are that impactful. There are sufficient opportunities to take some great photos and the pace is not rushed but you will be reminded of the time to be kept on schedule. Suggestions: bring your own water and snacks, again this is a long day. If possible, purchase or have lunch at the Apartheid museum’s restaurant. The food is good, and the time/distance between your next destinations is sufficient enough that you can eat it in the van as you will not be having a formal lunch stop.
Just went on this trip yesterday and it was tons of fun. Our tour guide stanley was very knowledgeable and it made the tour that much more fun. He is truly passionate about is work and his country and it shows.
Had the pleasure of having Bobo as my guide on this tour. I was originally picked up by another guide, Tsholo. Both were friendly and courteous. Bobo is very knowledgeable in all things Johannesburg! The tour was excellent, very informative and value for money. If I am ever in Johannesburg again I would definitely use MoAfrika again. Thank you.
We took the 1day Ultimate Joburg tour which includes Constitution Hill area, Apartheid Museum and Soweto plus other shorter stops. It was a great way to cover a lot of ground with a very knowledgeable guide and lots of interesting information. The pick up from the hotel was bang on time and I felt that we were well looked after throughout the day. I'm doing another day tour with MoAfrika and would happily recommend them.
Had a great day around Johannesburg with our tour guide Tsholo. Very funny, pleasant and knowledgeable. Great thing to do if you only have a short stay.
We very much enjoyed our day tour to Johannesburg and Soweto with our very enthusiastic guide Thabang. We started at Constitution Hill and prison number four, went to the Apartheidsmuseum, and headed down to Soweto were we experienced all the faces of this living township.
Booked the ultimate day trip directly as I hoped to see the highlights of the city. It definitely met my expectations. With this tour, you get to see the Constitution Hill, Carlton Center, Apartheid Museum and Soweto - including passing Desmond Tutu's house and Nelson Mandela's house. You can also pay to visit inside Nelson Mandela's house and there is a free guided tour. You really only need 15-20 minutes to do that. The Hector Pieterson Memorial is poignant but I could have happily missed the museum in favour of spending more time at the Apartheid Museum.
Amazing Sipho Sugar guide. Tour in Joburg and Soweto full of detailed explanations and tips. We even entered to meet Soweto locals and Sipho's neighborhood, real life experience on the field. Highly recommended to book MoAfrika and try to get Mr. Sugar as guide.
MoAfrica, the tour company offering the tour messed our reservation up. We were supposed to be picked up at our hotel between 8:15 and 8:30. When 9:00 came around and no pick up, we called the company. They didn’t have us down. A driver was sent to pick us up and we joined the tour around 9:45. After that, the tour was fantastic. Our guide, Stan, was one of the best I’ve ever had. He was knowledgeable and always interesting. I strongly recommend this tour, but make sure the company has your information. Keep their phone number just in case.
I'd seen good reviews for this trip and overall I'm pleased. It was a lot to pack into one day, especially with picking up people from different locations. The van we were picked up by was well worn and cramped as we were full to capacity. The air con didn't make much of an impact either. Our guide tshoto and Lawrence were very polite and enthusiastic, answering all questions. Unfortunately, we were told we were short of time and it was suggested we skip the visit to the tallest building. As the majority wanted more time at the museum it was decided to miss out that particular attraction, which was a shame. The museum was very confusing to navigate and we had a long time there. Overall we got a lot of information out of the trip but the standard of travel offered by moafrika varies from trip to trip.
Perfect pick up according to the agreement at 09:00 a.m. by our outstanding tourguide Tsholo! We had a great day with: - northern suburbs - Constitution Hill - Jo‘burg City with Carlton Tower - Apartheid-Museum - Exceptional insights into Soweto - Hector Pieterson Museum Airconditioned Bus (Up to 10 People), water for refreshment included. Tour end at 05:30 p.m., all perfect! Our guide Tsholo was really great: very knowledgeable, friendly and with a great humor! He made sure we had some real special moments!
