Soweto, Apartheid Museum and the City of Johannesburg are all included on this full day, jam packed tour. The tour is designed for those travelers who want to see as much as possible in a day in Johannesburg.

On this half day tour your guide, who was born and raised in Soweto, will take you past all the hotspots in Soweto. The tour will take you deep into the township culture, so you can enjoy a personal experience of how vibrant and lively this part of Johannesburg really is.

On our way to Soweto we pass by the National Football Stadium City, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area, where we will take a walk past vendors selling just about anything.

In Orlando West we visit Vilakazi Street- drive past the former home of Nelson Mandela and past the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will have an opportunity to read about the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976. On that tragic day an innocent little boy called Hector Pieterson gave up his life and kick-started the liberation of South Africa.

During this tour we will pass by the Mandela House. A visit into the museum is optional.

We continue our tour driving into one of the shanty towns where you get to interact with some of the locals.

By now you will have seen the good, the bad and the ugly facets of Soweto. We drive past the Soweto Campus of the Johannesburg University and end our tour with a stop at the largest hospital in the world: Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Apartheid museum

After Lunch we visit the world famous apartheid museum. Here you will learn about the history and struggle of South Africa during apartheid.

Like to get to know Johannesburg better? This afternoon tour is perfect for it! We take you to the top sites Johannesburg has to offer. Some of the areas our tour passes through are Hillbrow , Central Johannesburg, Braamfontein and Newtown.

We start your introduction to Jozi with a view of the impressive 269 metre Telkom Tower, as seen on many postcards of Johannesburg. We then enter the inspiring Constitution Hill – and Court (when not in session) Political activists like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were once held here. During a tour inside you will learn about some of the legal history of Johannesburg.

On our way to Newtown we pass by the longest southern African bridge, named Nelson Mandela bridge. At Mary Fitzgerald Square you can walk on the Jazz Walk of Fame.

We end this tour with a visit to the Carlton Centre, also known as the ‘Top of Africa’. There a lift will elevate you 50 stories for an amazing and total view over the city. In short, this tour offers you a unique Johannesburg experience at an affordable rate.

MoAfrika Tours is a fantastic company. They pick you up from your location for all tours, and the tour guides are always incredibly knowledgeable and personable. I did the Johannesburg and Soweto Day Tour with Ben, and he was fantastic. He was kind to us, and took us around the city telling us interesting facts and getting to know us. Thanks for a great experience, MoAfrika!!

I wanted to take some visiting friends from Germany to see Soweto and so booked a private half day tour with MoAfrika Tours. Our guide, Sulu (I hope I’ve spelled his name correctly) was exceptional!! His knowledge of the history of Johannesburg and Soweto was brought to life in an informed, interesting and entertaining way. Providing the right amount of gravitas and fun as and when required – his ability to read the group (aged from 16 to 75) was fabulous! Everyone had an amazing time and has left South Africa feeling like they have truly experienced all aspects of the Country and fully understand it’s history and most importantly…. it’s potential! Amazing!

A real highlight of our trip to RSA
A private guide around Joburg and Soweto – very enjoyable, instructive and interesting. Guide Nick knew his stuff really well and was a pleasure to be with.

We had a tailor made tour for me and one colleague because of the limited time we had until to get to the airport in the evening (short break during a business trip)
The communication was very easy and quick with the office and everything was perfectly designed based on our needs. We went to the lion park, visit Soveto most important areas and closed our tour to Joburg city center.
The driver was very welcoming and polite, he was engaging all the time and he shared with us lots of insights about the sightseeings and the history of the city.
Overall, we had a very nice experience by experiencing a high service level so i can strongly recommend MoAfrika agent for your tour

My partner and I, with friends, arranged a private tour of Johannesburg and Soweto with Moafrika Tours; we had only one day in Johannesburg and wanted to see as much as possible. Moafrika delivered: our excellent guide picked us up at the Intercontinental in Sandton on schedule in a comfortable private minibus and we proceeded to see the highlights of the downtown area before proceeding to the marvelous Apartheid Museum; our guide pointed out the many highlights of this extraordinary museum. Later, after lunch at the museum, we continued to Soweto where we got an up close and personal look at the historic township. We visited numerous attractions in the Township and saw so much history. This tour really
helped us understand South Africa’s difficult past.

I would like to add that Wayne of Moafrika tours was a pleasure to work with: he efficiently handled reservations, requests and payment and the arrangements worked out perfectly.

I only had one day in Johannesburg and wanted to see as much as possible of the city so I decided to book the Ultimate Johannesburg tour with MoAfrika which was a very good choice. The tour included all the highlights of Johannesburg (Constitutional Hill, Apartheid Museum, Top of Africa, etc.) and an extended visit of Soweto in the afternoon. The tour was very well-organized with an excellent guide who gave us deep insights into the city’s culture. I can fully recommend it.
