Get excited as you wave goodbye to Table Mountain and the City Bowl, and head out into the lush greenery of the Garden Route. Today you will get to indulge in your love of the wild African bush from the back of a traditional, open 4 x 4 safari vehicle. Scan for elephant, lion, zebra, kudu, giraffe, white rhino and wildebeest in the Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. Your experienced Game Ranger will enthral you with their encyclopaedic knowledge of the game, bird and tree and plant life species.
Get even closer to nature when you hop off the vehicle and go for an amazing bush walk through rare Cape fynbos, learning how to track animals and how to heal by understanding the medicinal value of the amazing plants around you.
Then enjoy the contrast of craggy cliffs and wild plains on the way to Oudtshoorn, in the semi-arid Klein Karoo. This is ostrich country, and colourful plumes and farmstalls line your path. Here is where you will spend the evening enjoying the famous, traditional Oudsthoorn hospitality. You can barbeque under the stars or head into town to sample one of the many gorgeous restaurants. If meat is your thing, the ostrich steaks and kebabs are delicious!
Accommodation Options Day 1
Enjoy the unique town of Oudtshorn from the Backpackers Paradise, where you will enjoy free Wi-Fi, bar and coffee shop, pool and self-catering facilities and the flexibility to choose between dormitory or private rooms with en suite bathroom.
Spend your evening in the elegant sandstone building, enjoying local hospitality – Yamkela means ‘welcome’ in Xhosa, and you certainly will feel exactly that in this tranquil, homely oasis.
You will love the experience of this tented lodge offering a wonderful game experience, including resident hippos, giraffes, waterbuck, hartebeests, wildebeests and eland. The natural outdoor showers and beautifully appointed tents add a definite ‘glamour’ to the luxury camping experience.
Wake up to a breath taking Oudtshoorn sunrise. Enjoy it from the vantage of your open air 4 x 4 Safari bush vehicle, as you venture forth into the Buffeldrift Private Game Reserve. Your experienced guide will point out many exciting residents, such as buffalo, giraffe, kudu, porcupine, caracals, meerkats and aardvark.
Then, you can choose to get even closer to nature with a bush walk and this jaunt comes with some very special guests. The peaceful and awe-inspiring elephant rescues Bulelo, Jabari and Malaika invite you along to stroll the dam wall of the Buffelsdrift Private Game Reserve. Revel in their peace and wisdom up close, and you will never forget it.
After communing deeply with nature, get ready to get your kicks on Route 62. It’s the lekker, local version of the famous Route 66 in America that winds through the longest wine route in the Cape. Everywhere you look there are vintage burger bars, fabulous farm stalls and ‘blink and you’ll miss them’ towns, each with a unique story and a charm all their own. Stop at one of the many farm stalls along the way before arriving back in Cape Town by late evening.
