Best in Guided Soweto Tours

Ready to visit a city within a city? Ready to experience photo genetic, bustling Soweto? Let’s go!

On this half day tour in Soweto, your guide, who was born and raised in Soweto, will take you past all the hotspots in Soweto. The Top Soweto tour will take you deep into the township culture, so you can enjoy a personal experience of how vibrant and lively this part of Johannesburg really is.

Soweto-and-Johannesburg-content

On our way to Soweto we pass by the National Football Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area, where we will take a walk past vendors selling just about anything.

In Orlando West we visit Vilakazi Street- drive past the former home of Nelson Mandela and past the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will have an opportunity to read about the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976. On that tragic day an innocent little boy called Hector Pieterson gave up his life and kick-started the liberation of South Africa.

During this Soweto tour we will pass by the Mandela House. A visit into the museum is optional.

We continue our half day Soweto tour driving into one of the shanty towns where you get to interact with some of the locals.

By now you will have seen the good, the bad and the ugly facets of Soweto. We drive past the Soweto Campus of the Johannesburg University and end our tour with a stop at the largest hospital in the world: Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

A very big thank you to moafrica tours, we all had a great time. Being South Africans we didn’t expect much which is a big mistake we do, but we honestly did enjoy it and is an experience i will never forget! If you had to ask me to rate this tour on a scale of 1-5 5 being the best, definelty a 5 ! We have no complaints and walk away more knowledgeable about historic events. I’d also like to add that our tour guide Goodwill was a fantastic chap! We enjoyed he’s friendliness and welcoming approach so truly, thank you and I will
Most definitely recommend you guys..

From booking to the last minute, it is service all the way with MoAfrica.
We wish to thank MoAfrika for the great tour on Friday, 12 February 2016 and in particular the driver/guide Goodwill who was excellent and went out of his way to make the trip educational and comfortable for all.

For the overseas visitors this was a trip to remember and again thank you for taking them to the airport and making sure they are in time for their flight back to Europe.

Tsholo is a fantastic tour guide and showed us around in Johannesburg. He knows a lot and loves his country. If you have a few days in Joburg give him a call. He also knows a tour guide in Cliptown in Soweto which will be an experience you will never forget.

Review from TripAdvisor

We booked this tour at the very last minute and I have to say it was one of the main highlights of our trip.
We were picked up in Centurion and taken to Johannesburg where we were met by another guide. We were then taken on our tour of Soweto. At each major point we were met by another guide/speaker, the knowledge and information given by these guys are fantastic. We found the 10 minutes inside the township rather hard and yet we are all so glad we were given the opportunity to do this, my 12 year old daughter certainly had her eyes opened and I can honestly say she hasn’t complained about anything since her visit there.
All in all if you have the time then MoAfrika Tours are the guys to go with, an excellent service and a very enjoyable experience. Thank you!!

Tsholo is charming and knowledgeable, passionate about Soweto. However, disappointed not to see Regina Mundi or Bara hospital and the guide in the informal settlement mostly asked for financial support for the residents and himself. Not what I expect of a professional tour: Emotional manipulation. Could be improved.

I used them several days for tours of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Soweto. They are professional, prompt, well informed and everyone at each location knew them personally and made us feel likle family. Each time we used them for a private tour with just my wife and I, it was like having a family member show you around.

On a personal note, IO am also a PAstor and wanted them to pick us up after church service in Soweto. I planned to take an Uber from the guesthouse to church. Instead, the driver actually volunteered to pick us up at the guest house ‘at no charge’ take us to church, attend church with us and then go on the tour!

Many of my family members would not have done that!! The office said it was their treat and that the driver wanted to go with us….

MoAfrika is my New SouthAfrican Family…

I’ll be back in March! You are the only number I will bring with me!!

Ask for Clement! He is a real Godsend and very knowledgeable!! Don’t forget to ask him how his son Simphiwe (Meaning GIFT) is doing!

He even taught my wife and I some Zulu!!

Inkosi Ikubusise!!

Great SoWeto tour
Sunny was a very knowledgeable guide and knew everybody. We had a good time, the timings were respected and pick-up process was smoothly done.
Maybe next time it would be interesting to stop and get off to see Mandela’s house (the accessible one),otherwise if you have a short stay in Joburg it would definitely be worth your time to do a half tour to Soweto/Apartheid museum.

These guys are pro’s! I used them for private tours for my wife and I three times during our visit to South Africa! Soweto, Johannesburg, and Pretoria! If you can, try to get Clement to be your guide. He is ALL class and extremely knowledgeable! MoAfrika Tours are professionals worthy of your time and investment!

A big thank you to our guide Nick, who with great passion and enthusiasm, showed off his wonderful city. This tour covers many different sites of interest, including Soweto.

Nick did a wonderful job of driving us around, safely, explained the history of each site, generously stopped when requested, to buy souveniers, to take photos etc.

Thanks once again Nick, you made our visit to JoBerg extra special.

– Reservation is very easy and convenient. I chatted with the agent through the chat window on MoAfrica official website. Response is also very quick. Love it.
– Punctuality is superb. Driver/guide Bobo came exactly at 1.00 to pick us up as agreed.
– Guide is very informative. He is very knowledgeable of Soweto and South Africa’s history.
– The only downside is the food. Please don’t bring us to the same restaurant as flies started to swarm us when the food arrive. It was not a very pleasant sight to see. The meat was also very dry and tough.

Me and my friend booked the half day tour to Soweto and we had the most wonderful experience. Our guide Ben was very gentil and friendly and showed a lot of knowledge about the history of the place. We enjoyed very much.

I found this company when looking to book a couple of days tours at short notice. They responded to my email in a matter of minutes despite it being a Sunday evening. I am so glad that I booked with them.
Fantastic day safari trip – Ross, our guide was just brilliant! He gave great insight into the animals and the history of the area. What an amazing day!
Then I did a half day tour of Soweto. So many different emotions going there. Again, brilliant local guides who were open and friendly – really felt I was seeing the real Soweto. I wish I’d had longer there. Can’t fault any of the people I dealt with – great contact, friendly guides and drivers and I learnt a lot. Highly recommended!

Our tour guide Bobo was very friendly and looked after us well during the tour! It was a good experience of Soweto and we got to see a lot of interesting things and places and even saw a Gumboot dance!! Great half-day out in Soweto

Coming all the way from Singapore, my partner and I really wanted a glimpse of Soweto. We chanced upon this half-day tour and we were glad the arrangement was made so easily despite being at very late notice. Bobo our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and shared with sincerity. Thank you for a really good time and also dropping us off at the airport!
