More about our tour destinations

The main drawcard to Victoria Falls is the iconic waterfall which is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. After a guided tour of the Falls, the choice of things to do on the Zimbabwe and Zambia side is endless.

Shearwater Victoria Falls and Wild Horizons have been running successful business operations in Victoria Falls in decades and offer a wide range of activities and safari excursions. Tour operators like Moafrika Tours entrust these two leading companies to look after their guests and keep them safe.

Zambezi Sunset Cruise

A leisurely sunset boat cruise down the Zambezi River is the perfect way to start your holiday in Victoria Falls. It’s idea for game viewing as late afternoon and early evening is the best time to see game in the African bushveld.

The Zambezi River is the 4th largest river in Africa after the Nile, the Congo and the Niger rivers; spanning some 1 400 000 square kilometres and travelling 2 700 kilometres from its source in Zambia to the river mouth on the Indian Ocean in Mozambique.

It flows through six countries; Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. It spends the most time in Zambia and the least time in Botswana. It forms the border of Zambia and Namibia, Zambia and Botswana, and Zambia and Zimbabwe.

There are only a few bridges over the Zambezi River despite its being such a long river. The most impressive is the iconic Victoria Falls bridge; others include Otto Beit Bridge at Chirundu in Zimbabwe; the Katima Mulilo Bridge between Namibia and Sesheke in Zambia; and the Tete Suspension Bridge in Mozambique.

There are two massive man-made lakes on the Zambezi River and both are used to generate hydroelectric power for Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. Lake Kariba is located in Zimbabwe and the Cahora Bassa Dam is found in Mozambique. Lake Kariba is spectacular and world-renowned for fishing and safari tours and houseboat holidays. It’s the largest man-made lake in the world.

Helipad Café

Helipad Café is a delightful new-age eatery located at the premises of the Zambezi Helicopter Company a short 5-minute drive from the centre of town. By day it is a pleasant, albeit slightly noisy, coffee shop which has been incorporated into the check-in and waiting area at the hanger. Visitors can enjoy a delicious cups of coffee and light meals while waiting for to go on the “Flight of Angels” helicopter trip or waiting for someone to finish their aerial tour of the Falls.

By night, Helipad Café transforms into a magnificent fine dining experience under the bright African sky. The location is unique; an elevated position with commanding views of the surrounding bushveld and the sounds of nocturnal wildlife and birds breaking the silence of the night.

The twinkling light of 100 hanging lanterns guides you to a beautifully-laid table set out on a manicured terraced lawn; resplendent in crisp white linen and adorned with storm lanterns. Guests enjoy a delicious 3-course meal which is a fusion of European and African cuisine.

You can hear the thunderous roar of the cascading waterfall and feel a light mist coming from the towering column of spray. Since Helipad Café opened over two years ago, it’s become one of the most popular evening attractions in Victoria Falls.

Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park is Botswana’s third largest national park spanning some 11 700 square kilometres. It’s located in northern Botswana in one of the most ecologically diverse regions in Africa. Chobe is divided into four distinct ecosystems: the Serondela (Chobe riverfront), Savuti Marsh area, the Linyanti Marsh, and the hinterland (grass woodland).

Chobe is renowned for vast concentrations of game, in particular elephants. It’s estimated that at least 50 000 elephants live in the national park which is the largest elephant population in any natural reserve in Africa.

A full day tour of Chobe National Park includes a morning boat cruise on the Chobe River and an afternoon game drive in the reserve. The scenery is spectacular, game viewing is excellent and birdlife is prolific. The best thing is it’s only a 1-hour scenic drive from Victoria Falls.

Guided tour of the Falls

Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and everything you dream it will be when you’re standing on the edge of the terrifying abyss and all conversation is drowned out by the thunder of falling water. Without a doubt, it is one of the most spectacular sights you’ll see on a safari tour of Africa.

Long before the first European explorer recorded its existence; it had been named Mosi-oa-Tunya by the Makololo tribe, meaning ‘the Smoke that Thunders’. When the water is high, over 950 cubic metres of water plummets over an almost 2-meter wide edge every minute; dropping over 100 meters into the Zambezi Gorge and creating the largest curtain of water in the world.
